The Ice Dogs Junior team, featuring players born between 2004 and 2008, recently wrapped up two highly competitive showcase tournaments in May and June. Organized by the Carnevale Hockey Group, these events bring together some of Southern Ontario’s top junior prospects, offering elite-level competition and exposure.
May Tournament – A Run to the Finals
Competing in the South Division’s eight-team field, the Ice Dogs came out flying in the May showcase. They went undefeated in round-robin play (4-0-0), outscoring opponents by a dominant 26–8 margin and securing the top seed in their division.
In the semi-final, the Dogs battled past Prodigy Hockey with a 4–2 win, earning their place in Championship Sunday. The final pitted them against Battle Born Hockey (BBHS), one of the tournament’s top squads. Despite a strong effort, the Ice Dogs fell short, finishing as finalists.
Team Manager Tim McConaghy praised the opportunity, saying:
“It’s always great to make the final day at the Carnevale events as it gives our players a chance to play against some top-tier junior players—many they’d never face during the winter season.”
Veteran standouts Curtis Misner, Alex Lucas, Bennett MacKey, and Mason Burnett led the scoring, supported by consistent efforts across the lineup. In net, Austin Serbinek provided steady goaltending, while 2009-born Sam Weaver impressed in his debut with a shutout performance.
June Tournament – Short Bench, Big Heart
For the June showcase, the Ice Dogs were bumped up two divisions, facing stronger competition right from the start. With the goal of icing their best-ever roster for a Carnevale event, the team called on top-tier talent. Unfortunately, several last-minute player withdrawals left them short-handed for the weekend.
Despite the challenge, the Dogs fought hard, finishing round-robin play with a 1-2-1 record—just shy of a playoff berth. Brody Coe led the way offensively with five goals, while Owen Norman added two goals and two assists.
Season Summary
Across both tournaments, the Ice Dogs played 10 games, finishing with a strong 6-3-1 record.
This season also marked the final games for the team’s 2004-born players, who have now aged out of the program. We extend a heartfelt thank you to Alex Lucas, Curtis Misner, and Mason Burnett for their dedication and contributions over the years.
